Filmmaker and evangelist Mike Bamiloye has come to the defense of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), after recent backlash over Adeboye’s apology concerning tithing.
Adeboye had apologized for his previous statement that those who don’t pay tithes may not make heaven, admitting that such a claim was not biblical.
Bamiloye took to social media to praise Adeboye’s humility, emphasizing that it takes great courage and obedience to God for a leader of his stature to publicly admit a mistake.
He argued that many focused only on the apology, missing the bigger spiritual lesson about growth and deeper commitment in giving.
He urged Christians to understand the context of Adeboye’s statement rather than criticize.
“If you still have problems with what Baba said, then your spiritual sanctification is very doubtful,” Bamiloye wrote, encouraging other pastors to also reflect on their public statements.
Bamiloye further called on all believers to learn from Adeboye’s example, emphasizing that true leaders are those who listen to divine correction and are willing to make public restitution when integral.
“Getting to heaven is more important than all your pride and ego!” Bamiloye urged, pointing out that Adeboye’s focus remains firmly on eternal life rather than earthly accolades.
