In a shocking incident on October 8, officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) were allegedly attacked by personnel from the Nigerian Army while performing their lawful duties in Yaba, Lagos.
The attack, reportedly directed by Major Adebiyi and Captain Gowon, left a KAI officer severely injured, as seen in a disturbing video that has since circulated online.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, condemned the unprovoked assault, calling it “unacceptable.”
However, the swift intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T. Lagbaja, and the Director of Chaplain Services, Lt. Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi, brought the situation under control.
Wahab expressed his gratitude to the army leadership for ensuring that military personnel remained under civil authority within their jurisdiction, stating,
“Their leadership has ensured that KAI officers continue to carry out their responsibilities without further disruption.”
Moreover, Wahab stressed that such violent actions will not be tolerated in the future, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety and sanitation standards across Lagos.
He warned that the military should act as protectors of the people, not aggressors, and that future misconduct would carry serious consequences.
“We remain committed to ensuring #CleanerLagos,” he added, reinforcing the state’s focus on upholding law and order.
