Nigerians Deserve Accountability on newly acquired Presidential Jets, says Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2024 election, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to provide clear details about the newly acquired presidential jet and the sale of old ones.

In a post shared on his X handle on August 21, Obi emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, urging the government to disclose the costs and conditions of the newly purchased aircraft.

“Now that the jet is here, Nigerian taxpayers deserve to know how much it costs, how old the aircraft is, and how long it has been in operation,” Obi stated.

He also highlighted the need for clarity on the old jets being sold, including their age, the number of jets being disposed of, and the reasons behind the sale.

Furthermore, he insisted that providing this information would not only uphold public accountability but also maintain the respect of the federal government.

Obi’s demand follows the revelation on August 19 that the presidency had acquired an Airbus A330 business jet, which was used to transport President Tinubu to France on the same day.

He reiterated that a presidential jet is a significant symbol of national sovereignty and that the public has the right to full disclosure regarding its cost and usage.

“I hope that Nigerians will not be denied the right to full disclosure on the new presidential jet,” Obi added, stressing that leadership must be transparent about how public funds are utilized.
