NNPC Reportedly Hikes Pump Price Above N800, Sparking Outrage and Fuel Shortages

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has reportedly increased the pump price of petrol to over N800 per liter, a move that has ignited widespread concern and frustration among citizens.

According to reports, several NNPC filling stations in Lagos and Abuja have adjusted their fuel prices from N568 to as high as N897 per litre, with specific stations in Alausa, Ikeja, and Ikuo displaying prices of N865, N868, and N897, respectively.

This sharp increase in fuel prices has exacerbated an already critical situation, as fuel queues continue to grow in major cities across the country, leaving many Nigerians unable to access the petrol they need.

The sudden hike in fuel prices has raised questions about the NNPC’s autonomy and the government’s control over pricing regulations.

Many citizens are expressing anger and disappointment, viewing this price surge as a clear indicator of the company’s greed and a blatant disregard for governmental oversight.

The fact that such a significant increase could occur without apparent approval from the relevant authorities suggests a troubling lack of enforcement and accountability within the sector.

This development has also led to widespread speculation about the extent to which the government is truly in control of the industries that operate under its jurisdiction.

As the situation continues to worsen, there is an urgent call for the government to intervene and address the fuel crisis that is crippling the nation.

The escalating prices and the persistent scarcity of fuel are not just inconveniences; they are life-threatening issues that are pushing many Nigerians to the brink of despair.

The government must act swiftly to rein in the NNPC and ensure that fuel is made available and affordable for all citizens.

Failure to do so could lead to even greater unrest and a further erosion of public trust in the government’s ability to manage the nation’s resources effectively.
