Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has reaffirmed his commitment to leading the October 1 hunger protest despite warnings from the Federal Government and the Nigerian Police Force to rethink the protest from occurring.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, September 30, Sowore declared, “NO GOING BACK! #FearlessInOctober,” emphasizing that the nationwide protests will proceed across the country, including a significant demonstration at Eagles Square in Abuja, which will mark their determination of the event taking place.
Sowore criticized the current administration for failing to address issues plaguing the nation, such as rising petrol prices, the devaluation of the naira, insecurity, food inflation, and insecurity.
“Between the last protest just two months ago and now, petrol prices have risen by almost N300 per litre.
The naira has further devalued, and prices have increased in the market,”
Sowore said, adding, “The Nigerian people want to voice their displeasure with this government’s failure.”
The protest organizers in Lagos plan to begin their march at 7:30 a.m. at the Ikeja Under Bridge, with Sowore insisting that the protests will remain peaceful and not harmful; they just want to be heard, nothing more.
He added, “Our only weapon is truth, and no amount of force or violence will prevent us from speaking truth to power.
Thousands of voices will be raised in protest on October 1.”
