NSITF has set a goal to significantly increase its coverage by enrolling one million new beneficiaries every year.
This expansion aims to provide financial protection and security to a larger segment of the population.
During a recent retreat with legislative committees, NSITF’s Managing Director, Oluwaseun Faleye, announced plans to extend social insurance coverage to NYSC members.
This move will provide financial support and security to corps members during their service year and beyond, further broadening NSITF’s impact.
Mr. Faleye emphasized that the key to achieving the enrollment goal lies in extensive public engagement and education.
He highlighted the importance of awareness among Nigerians regarding the benefits of registration under the Employee Compensation Act (ECA).
“Our primary focus is to ensure that Nigerians are aware of the benefits that come with being registered under the ECA. It is a mandated scheme, but more importantly, it provides critical support in cases of work-related injuries, death, or disease,”
Furthermore, the NSITF is seeking to expand its coverage to include NYSC members, recognizing the risks associated with their mobility and duties.
“These young men and women are essential to the nation’s development, yet they face significant risks while serving their country,”
Mr. Falaye also stated that
“The National Assembly is a crucial partner in our mission to expand social insurance coverage across Nigeria. We need their support in areas such as digitalization and advocacy, and we look forward to working with them to fast-track necessary legal amendments and enhance enforcement of compliance,”
This initiative is particularly vital in ensuring that youth are equipped to be useful and educated, enabling them to support their families. As the NSITF seeks to safeguard the well-being of Nigerian workers, collaboration with the National Assembly is essential to achieving these goals and fostering a more secure future for the nation’s workforce.
