One Dead, Two Missing as Flood Wreaks Havoc in Ibadan, Residents Appeal for Government Intervention

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that one person has died and two others are missing following heavy flooding in the Joyce-B/Mobil area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

The flood, caused by torrential rains on Tuesday evening, destroyed properties and disrupted daily life in several residential areas in the state.

The NEMA Southeast Coordinator, Kadir Olanrewaju, attributed the flood to improper drainage systems and warned that the situation could worsen if not addressed promptly and could put thousands of lives at risk.

 “The volume of water in the area was too much for the available drainage.

People need to move away from this place because if we have another rain, the flood will be devastating,” Olanrewaju stated while assessing the scene.

 Residents are now calling on the government for urgent intervention.

Solomon Agboro, whose family sought refuge on the upper floor of his building as the flood engulfed the lower level, urged officials to create proper drainage systems in the area.

Similarly, another resident, Oni Bishola, who lost household items, said,

“We experience flooding every year, but this was the worst.

The government must come to our aid immediately.”
