PDP Eyes Merger as Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso Discuss Alliance for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly in discussions with leading opposition figures Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso to form a formidable alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The National Spokesman for the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed in an interview that the talks aim to unite the opposition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and “salvage Nigerians from hunger.”

Reflecting on the party’s recent challenges, Abdullahi expressed regret over the internal conflicts that led to the departure of key figures like Obi and Kwankwaso, which he believes cost the party victory in the last election.

He noted, “Imagine if they were in the party; we would have won the elections… and certainly, Nigerians would not have been confronted with this despair and despondency in the land.”

Discussions are ongoing, with Abdullahi hinting that if an agreement is reached,

“One of them would concede for the other, and then we would have a direction.”

He further emphasized that the PDP is committed to learning from past mistakes and rebuilding public trust.

The PDP’s focus remains on restoring confidence in the government, addressing the nation’s growing issues of hunger and insecurity, and providing a united front that could offer a credible alternative to the APC in 2027.
