PDP governors Rally behind Fubara in Dispute with Wike

Concerns have surfaced within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the leadership style of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, especially in light of his ongoing dispute with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Amidst growing unease, the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF), which convened in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Friday, August 23, has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) to reconsider the recent party congress.

The event, which saw Fubara denied a significant role, has led to suspicions among party members about his capacity to lead effectively, raising the prospect of legal interventions to rectify the situation.

The PDP-GF expressed its concerns about the increasing reliance on court judgments to resolve internal party disputes in Rivers State, suggesting a lack of confidence in Fubara’s leadership.

The Forum’s communiqué emphasized the need for the NWC to address the contentious congress results, stating,

“The PDP Governors’ Forum restates its stand with the Governor of Rivers State and will engage the NWC of our great party to revisit the congress with a view to correcting the anomaly and allowing His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take his rightful leadership position of the party in the state.”

This statement highlights the governors’ reluctance to allow internal discord to persist unchecked, preferring instead to seek judicial resolution over escalating internal tensions.

Moreover, the PDP-GF voiced their disapproval of recent federal actions, including alleged attempts to manipulate the upcoming governorship election in Edo State and the reported intimidation of PDP supporters.

The governors criticized the federal government for blurring the lines between national and federal revenues, which they claim undermines financial fairness and transparency.
