The Presidency has strongly denied claims made by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed labor leaders by increasing the petrol pump price.
Ajaero alleged that labor accepted the N70,000 national minimum wage based on an understanding that the Federal Government would not hike fuel prices. However, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, refuted these allegations, stating that no such agreement was made during meetings between the President and labor leaders.
Abdulaziz, who was present at the last two meetings, took to his verified X handle to dismiss Ajaero’s claims as “dirty politics” aimed at manipulating public sentiment.
He asserted, “I sat through the two meetings President @officialABAT had with Labour leaders on minimum wage.
At neither of the meetings was an offer made in exchange for the fuel price hike. Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”
This controversy adds to the growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians over the government’s handling of economic issues, particularly the fuel crisis, which has placed additional burdens on the populace.
As tensions rise, many citizens are questioning the government’s transparency and commitment to addressing their needs.
The government is urged to reassess its approach to governance, prioritize the well-being of its citizens, and restore public trust by being more transparent in its dealings.
