President Tinubu Reshuffles DSS and New Directors-General for NIA

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

These key appointments were announced on Monday, August 26, 2024, by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.

The appointments come in the wake of the resignations of the previous NIA and DSS chiefs, with the new appointees expected to bring a fresh perspective and enhanced accountability to their roles.

Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, who has had an illustrious career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995, is recognized for his extensive experience and diplomatic acumen.

His career includes significant postings in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja, as well as his recent role as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his international expertise in addressing the complex challenges facing Nigeria’s intelligence community.

Similarly, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, who has been appointed as the new DSS Director-General, has risen through the ranks of the service, demonstrating strong leadership and reliability in various capacities, including as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

President Tinubu has charged both officials with the task of repositioning their respective agencies to better tackle the nation’s security challenges.

The President emphasized the importance of collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to achieve significant results.
