In response to growing concerns over Ukraine’s counteroffensive and to ensure national security, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the recruitment of an additional 180,000 soldiers for concrete protection measures.
This new decree, set to take effect on December 1, will bring the total number of Russian military personnel to 2.4 million, with 1.5 million troops, as Russia’s military operation in Ukraine surpasses the two-and-a-half-year mark, which is a shocking number at that.
The decision follows earlier measures to bolster troop numbers, as Putin seeks to prevent further vulnerabilities in the Russian military to ensure that they lose many soldiers this time around.

A key factor behind this recruitment drive has been the success of Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region, which highlighted shortages in Russia’s military personnel, and that is why they are working towards achieving a larger amount of soldiers.
To counter this, Russia has previously relied on reservists, volunteers, and prisoners to fill its ranks.
By increasing its military capacity, the Russian government aims to prevent any future setbacks in the ongoing conflict.
The government has been instructed to provide the necessary funding to support this significant troop expansion, demonstrating its commitment to securing national interests and safeguarding its citizens amidst the continuing conflict.
