Nigerian rapper Remilekun Khalid Safaru, popularly known as Reminisce, has cautioned rising artists about the harsh realities of the music industry, stressing that success can attract people with hidden agendas.
In an interview with Naija FM, he shared his experience, explaining that artists should never mistake everyone around them as genuine friends.
According to the rapper, “One of the things I did in life earlier on was to realize that nobody is my friend. That’s probably why many people don’t like me.”
Furthermore, Reminisce emphasized the importance of standing firm and making decisions that protect one’s career, despite any backlash from others.
He explained that those around an artist, especially during their rise to fame, may not have their best interests at heart.
“It is very normal to have people around you when you’re hot and popping, and it is your responsibility as a famous person to determine what you want,” he stated.
He urged young artists to guard themselves from the potential betrayal that can arise when financial gains are involved.
The rapper’s advice comes at a time when the pressures of the entertainment industry have come under increased scrutiny.
Using his own experiences, Reminisce warned, “The first mistake you can make in this music industry is thinking everyone is your friend.”
His words serve as a reminder to rising talents to focus on their personal and professional growth without relying on the validation or approval of others.
