American rapper Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically died from an accidental drug overdose, according to a report from the Fulton County medical examiner.
The 33-year-old artist, who gained prominence in the mid-2010s, passed away on September 5th, 2024, after ingesting a combination of drugs including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed there were no signs of trauma, and his death was officially ruled as an accident.
The discovery of his unresponsive body shocked the music world, with his brother recalling how he initially thought Quan was asleep on the floor before realizing something was seriously wrong.
“It was very unusual to see food still in his mouth,” his brother explained to police, before a woman at the scene later noticed the rapper was cold and not breathing, prompting the emergency call.
Quan, known for hits like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way,” had built a strong fan base with his trap music but fell victim to the same troubling patterns of drug use seen among many in the industry.
While his career had highs, many fans are now reflecting on the influence of drugs in the music world and questioning the legacy it leaves for future artists.
His story is a painful reminder that fame and success are fleeting when health and well-being are compromised.
