In this article, I am going about the now defunct music group, Resonance, what really happened to them and how they are faring now.
It’s been over 15 years since the duo faded into shadows and you must have wondered what really happened. Did they break up? why did they break up? You are going to get all the answers you need.
Did Resonance break up?
Yes they did.
Why did they break up?
I think you should read a little about them first for a better understanding.
About Resonance
The group “Resonance” was made up of two cousins, Esther Olaedo Iyizoba (formerly Ebigbo) also known as ‘Estar’ and her cousin Uche Ozoigbo also known as ‘Gucheano’. Formed in 2006 in Enugu State, Eastern Nigeria, Resonance was focused on gospel music.
The group came into limelight after the release of their debut album “Chinweike” which means God is great. The album sold many copies and became an instant hit in Nigeria and beyond, winning many awards both in Enugu and in Lagos, setting them off for life.
Resonance Chinweike Album consists of seven tracks:
1. Chinwe Ike
2. Nna Anyi
3. Judgement Day Feat. Dekumzy
4. Holy Ghost Fire
5. Lee Lee
6. I Don Die Feat. Dusky
7. Thank You Feat. Dekumzy
Different from other gospel music produced before or after. The excellent vocals and raps coupled with excellent beats helped create what I consider one of Nigeria’s best gospel music till date. The tracks were so appealing that you could find the album in almost all Christian homes in Nigeria at that time.
Resonance breakup
Now back to the topic. Resonance broke up in August 2007 and they both went solo thereafter, unknowingly pushing themselves out of the limelight. I guess this is where the saying “Two heads are better than one” comes in. Esther who was the lead singer and also the leader of the group was said to be taken all the credits while Gucheano was doing all the work.

Though they didn’t say anything themselves, but while Resonance lasted, many fans were unaware the band was a duo or group. Many automatically believed Resonance was Esther Abigbo.
How are they faring now?
Since Resonance splitted in 2007, little has been heard of Gucheano, while Estar went solo. She has released a couple of singles including Selense, Riding on the Clouds, and an album titled ‘God, Love & Music’.
Estar with so much love for music started singing at age 3 and started playing the guitar at age 11.
She represented Nigeria in New York as a singer at the United Nations Children’s Congress at the age of 14 by the time she was 17 she joined the Igbo choir in her community.
