Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of former president John F. Kennedy and son of the assassinated 1968 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, has recently withdrawn from the U.S. presidential race and announced his endorsement of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
This unexpected decision has drawn sharp criticism from his own family, who viewed the endorsement as a betrayal of the values they hold dear.

RFK Jr., in his announcement, highlighted that his decision was driven by his belief that the Democratic Party no longer upholds the “core values” he grew up with, specifically citing concerns over free speech, the war in Ukraine, and what he termed as “a war on our children.”
Kennedy’s move to back Trump, particularly in battleground states, has intensified the divide within the Kennedy family.
His siblings were quick to issue a statement condemning his decision, describing it as a “sad ending to a sad story.”
They expressed their dismay at what they perceived as a neglect of family values and a betrayal of their father’s legacy, stating,
“Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear.”
In spite of the familial backlash, RFK Jr. defended his decision, asserting that his endorsement of Trump was made to avoid being a “spoiler” in key battleground states.
He stated that his presence in the race could inadvertently harm the chances of the candidate he believed would best support the causes he stands for, including preserving democracy and constitutional values.
Trump, who is on his third presidential bid, welcomed the endorsement, calling it “an honor,” further solidifying the controversial alliance that has shocked political observers and deepened the rift within one of America’s most prominent political families.
