Shiloh Jolie Granted Legal Name Change, Dropping Father’s Surname

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, the 18-year-old daughter of Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has officially been granted a legal name change.

On Monday, August 19, Shiloh successfully petitioned to drop her father’s surname, Pitt, and will now be known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

The reasons behind her decision to seek this change remain undisclosed, but they highlight the importance of respecting an individual’s right to make personal choices, regardless of age.

The legal process for the name change involved Shiloh issuing a public notice in the Los Angeles Times for several weeks in compliance with California law.

This requirement ensures transparency and avoids delays in legal proceedings. Shiloh’s decision comes eight years after her mother, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016.

While they were declared legally single in 2019, their divorce has yet to be finalized, with ongoing disputes over custody and shared business interests.

This ruling highlights the judiciary’s role in upholding individual rights, even for minors or young adults seeking to assert their independence.

Shiloh’s successful name change should serve as an example, encouraging other nations to recognize and respect the rights of children and young adults to make decisions that impact their identity.

The court’s decision demonstrates that young individuals should be granted the freedom to express themselves and make choices in line with their personal convictions.
