Sokoto Emir’s Son Freed as Bandits Collect N60m, 5 Motorcycles as Ransom

Kabiru, the son of the late District Head of Gobir in Gatawa, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, has been released by bandits after 25 days in captivity. 

 This development comes following the payment of a N60 million ransom and the provision of five motorcycles.

 Tragically, Kabiru’s father, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, was executed by the bandits, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the government’s efforts to curb banditry and protect citizens.

 The late monarch, who was abducted alongside his son and brother, had appeared in a disturbing video pleading for help just days before his execution.

 In spite of this, the efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful, leading to widespread criticism of the police and other security agencies.

 Confirming the release of Kabiru, Hon. Aminu Boza, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, stated that the young man is currently receiving treatment at Usman Danfodio Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.

“Unfortunately, they have buried the remains of the late emir in the bush,” Boza said. 

 The incident highlights the urgent need for the government to take more decisive action in advancing security measures across all states as the persistent threat of banditry continues to endanger lives and destabilize communities.
