Sokoto Residents Clash with Police After Emir’s Death

Chaos erupted in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, as residents took to the streets to protest the death of Alhaji Isa Bawa, the Emir of Gobir, who was killed after three weeks in captivity.

The Emir, a respected leader known for holding the community together, was abducted along with his son while returning to his hometown near the Niger border after attending a meeting in Sokoto.

His death has sent shockwaves through the community, intensifying anger and frustration over the government’s failure to provide adequate security.

Following the news of Bawa’s death, local youths began rioting in Sabon Birni, burning tires in the streets to express their grief and outrage.
