Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, was arrested in Florida on Sunday, September 15.
In a photo obtained by Fox News, Routh appeared calm as he sat handcuffed in the back of a police car following his capture for the crime committed.
Routh was detained after allegedly bringing an AK-47-style rifle near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, waiting for the former president.
Authorities revealed that Routh showed little emotion during the arrest. Martin County Sheriff William Snyder remarked,
“He was relatively calm during the detainment… Was not displaying a lot of emotion.
Never asked ‘what is this about?’” Secret Service agents had earlier spotted the muzzle of a gun in the shrubbery along the golf course and fired at Routh before he fled in an SUV.
This marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in just three months, raising concerns about his safety.
In July, Trump was grazed by a bullet during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania after another would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired at him from a nearby rooftop.
With rising threats, authorities have stressed the need for heightened security measures to protect both Trump and other political figures.
