The Damaturu police patrol team, “Operation Haba Maza,” responded to the scene and evacuated the body, which was later claimed by relatives.

Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) officials also visited the site and confirmed that while the suspect attempted to shield himself with his shirt, he made contact with a live cable, resulting in instant death.

“The transformer was not damaged, and no further vandalism was reported,” said Blessing Tunor, YEDC Communication Officer.

This tragic incident highlights the challenges individuals face in times of economic hardship.

While theft is never justified, it underscores the need for government interventions to provide viable alternatives to illegal acts.

Condolences are extended to the family for the loss they have experienced.
