Former Nigerian international, Taribo West, has expressed concern that Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen, despite his tactical abilities, lacks the grace needed to excel in major tournaments, as there is more required of you as a coach.
West, who is now a pastor and founder of the Shelter in the Storm Miracle Ministry, made these comments during an interview on Brila FM’s station during a program show called “No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze.”
While praising Eguavoen for his technical approach, West stated,
“Anytime Eguavoen leads the team, he brings a certain touch, taking the team back to those glorious days.” he stated.
However, West highlighted that in spite of his strong performances, the Super Eagles often fall short in significant and crucial moments, attributing this shortfall to a lack of grace rather than skill or preparation; they all need to be put together for a successful match.
Furthermore, West added that Eguavoen’s coaching often brings out the best in the players but fails to deliver results when it matters and is significant the most.
“The team will play well, but the results won’t favor them,” he said, while also encouraging investment in local coaches to build stronger national teams without relying on foreign managers.
