President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to working for Nigeria, stating that his purpose in office is not to seek wealth but to address the nation’s pressing issues.
Speaking during a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized,
“I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work.”
Despite his assurances, the public continues to question the government’s handling of economic challenges and rising costs of living, including food prices and fuel costs.
Acknowledging the current hardships faced by Nigerians, Tinubu noted that past administrations failed to capitalize on periods of high crude production, neglecting critical sectors such as education and community development.
“We neglected our communities; we neglected the goose that lays the golden eggs,” he remarked, stressing the need for reform in education and infrastructure to foster national growth.
However, many Nigerians remain skeptical, with calls for action rather than promises, as the country grapples with inflation and deteriorating public services.
While Tinubu urged unity and continued support across party lines to overcome the nation’s difficulties, critics argue that without tangible improvements in key areas such as food security and fuel affordability, his words will continue to fall short of expectations.
“Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here?”
Tinubu questioned, but for many citizens, the question remains whether the administration’s policies will provide effective solutions in time to ease the nation’s economic burden.
