UFC Star Israel Adesanya Criticizes Lagos Women, Calls Them Proud and Into “Runs,” Sparks Controversy

Nigerian-born UFC star Israel Adesanya has sparked controversy with his recent comments about women in Lagos, labeling them as proud and suggesting that many are involved in “runs” or transactional relationships.

In a video that has gone viral, Adesanya, known as the Last Stylebender, shared his thoughts in Yoruba, saying,

“Lagos women like to feel themselves and are proud. Most of you are runs girls. I know the meaning of runs girls now. Kobo kobo, ashewo.”

His remarks appear to be based on observations from personal experiences or those shared by friends, as well as what he has seen on social media.

While Adesanya’s comments have resonated with some who agree with his assessment, they have also drawn criticism for generalizing and potentially mischaracterizing the behavior of all women in Lagos.

Critics argue that such sweeping statements are not only unfair but also overlook the fact that there are many women in Lagos with commendable behavior and values.

By categorizing all women in the city under a negative stereotype, Adesanya’s comments may perpetuate harmful biases.
