Former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Laraba-Mallam, has called on Nigerian women to actively engage in politics, emphasizing the need for female representation to address the nation’s pressing issue.
Speaking at a sensitization seminar organized by the Dignity of Women Commission at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kaduna, the former minister highlighted that the country’s economic drivers are predominantly men, yet women are often recognized as better managers, particularly within their homes.

This observation, she argued, should inspire women to challenge the status quo and assert their influence in the political arena.
Mrs. Laraba-Mallam stressed that women should not shy away from politics, despite its reputation as a “dirty game.” She urged them to see politics as an opportunity to make their voices heard and to contribute to nation-building.
“The drivers of the economy are 95% men. We all know that women are better managers; look at the homes, give a woman a little milk, and she will cater for her family very well,” she remarked.
By stepping into political roles, women can bring their unique perspectives and management skills to the forefront, potentially leading to more effective governance and a better society.
The former minister’s call to action also addressed the broader socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, such as youth trafficking, domestic abuse, and kidnapping, which she linked to poor governance and economic instability.
She encouraged women to recognize their power and responsibility in shaping the nation’s future.
“If you train a woman, you have trained a nation,” she said, urging women to rise to the occasion and compete with men in politics.
Mrs. Laraba-Mallam concluded that, with determination and faith, women can make significant strides in politics, ensuring that their voices contribute to the positive transformation of the country.
