APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has voiced his concerns about the devaluation of the Nigerian naira, questioning why the country’s currency ranks among the weakest in Africa in spite of Nigeria’s wealth accumulation and resources available for great use.
Igbokwe posed this thought-provoking question on his Facebook page, pointing out the nation’s vast material resources, education, and potential, hoping for a great change.
“Why is Nigerian currency among the weakest in Africa and beyond despite our wealth, size, population, education, material resources, industry, landmass, good weather, etc.?” he asked out of curiosity, wanting to know what the real problem was.
His comment sparked widespread reactions, with many sharing their frustration about the state of the Nigerian economy, which is not changing for the good of people but rather going for the opposite.
However, some observers feel Igbokwe’s statement comes across as disingenuous, as critics argue that figures in the ruling political party should be held accountable for Nigeria’s economic mismanagement and the sudden change in the nation.
Nevertheless, his post reflects the growing concern among Nigerians about the declining naira and the broader impact of inflation and poor governance on the nation’s well-being, which is now draining people that exhausted because it is always stated that Nigerians are the strongest in enduring things.
“If even an APC chieftain is worried, how much worse is it for the average citizen?”
one commenter pointed out, underlining the dire situation many face in the recent state of the country.
