Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has accused his predecessor and current Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, of being complicit in banditry activities during his tenure as governor of Zamfara State.
Speaking in an interview with TVC on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Lawal alleged that while Matawalle was in office, bandits were harbored in the Zamfara State government house and that ransom payments for kidnapped victims were made under his administration; his stay was a very rough one at that.
Lawal emphasized that Matawalle’s alleged involvement in these activities disqualifies him from holding the position of Minister of State for Defense and called for his immediate resignation; he had spoken from his own view.
“If I were him, I would resign and face all the allegations against me.
That would have been more honorable,” Lawal said, adding,
“It’s unfair to the people of Zamfara and Nigeria that someone with such serious allegations continues to serve in this capacity.” he stated.
The Zamfara Governor urged authorities to take the allegations seriously and advised Matawalle to clear his name before continuing in public service.
“He should step aside, face these allegations, and then return once his name is cleared.
This is about leadership, transparency, and trust,” Lawal concluded.
