Lagos State offers assistance programs to help children prosper in spite of family abuse

Children who have seen intimate partner abuse at home can now participate in an ongoing Support and Healing Group Program offered by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Abuse Agency (DSVA).

This program seeks to give impacted children a safe and supportive environment through the Psychosocial Department.

The program offers the opportunity to explore emotions, build resilience, and develop critical coping skills in order to address the emotional issues that today’s children confront, which are frequently caused by domestic abuse.

It has been brought to light that these kids are frequently the unseen victims of domestic abuse, going through trauma without the help they need.

“This innovative initiative provides children with the chance to connect with peers experiencing similar difficulties,” said Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of DSVA.

Furthermore, the program is led by certified clinical psychologists with expertise in emotional health and child psychology. This guarantees that every child gets the proper attention and care.

The clinical psychology department head, Mrs. Olive Oluwagbemileke, continued,

“The program is designed to last for four weeks.”

Over fifty kids attend these group lessons, which are held in a private, secure environment.

Children are free to express themselves in this environment without fear of criticism.

“Our goal is to create a space where children can heal, grow, and learn to manage their emotions positively and healthily, despite the trauma they have experienced at home,” stated Mrs. Oluwagbemileke.

As the program progresses, it is hoped that it will benefit the community by fostering emotional growth and resilience among the children.

This Support and Healing Group Program stands as a beacon of hope for many young lives. Its potential impact on children’s emotional well-being, despite the adversities they face at home, is commendable.
