One Dead, Eight Injured in Fatal Accident on Third Mainland Bridge

A tragic accident on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge on September 16 left one man dead and eight others seriously injured after two commercial buses collided with each other.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred in an axis area of Lagos inward the Oworonsoki area, with both drivers speeding recklessly, leading to a fatal head-on collision.

The injured passengers were rushed to a nearby general hospital in Gbagada for urgent medical attention, while the body of the deceased has been transferred to the morgue.

“Swift intervention by LASTMA facilitated the rapid rescue of eight passengers, all of whom suffered severe fractures,” said Taofiq.

The Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) responded promptly to the scene, ensuring the victims received immediate care for protection purposes.

The police units from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations provided critical support during the rescue operation at the third mainland bridge.

The quick and efficient response by LASTMA and the police highlights their dedication to public safety and highlights the importance of responsible driving on Lagos roads to ensure the safety of passengers.
