A driver was fortunate to escape unscathed after his car overturned in the Alakija area of Mile 2, Lagos, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the afternoon.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident was caused by brake failure, which led the vehicle to veer off the road at high speed which is as a result of improper check of vehicles before leaving the place of stay.
The quick response of LASTMA officials and other security agencies at the scene prevented a more catastrophic outcome, which would have led to rushing to the hospital or even the vehicle exploding before he was able to leave the vehicle.
“LASTMA’s quick intervention, in collaboration with security agencies, helped prevent what could have been a catastrophic situation,” Taofiq said in a statement shared on social media, formerly Twitter.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to always adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before driving.
He emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to avoid such incidents in the future, adding,
“Motorists must follow road safety rules and maintain their cars to protect their lives and the lives of others,” he stated.
